I'm wanting good films to watch you are both a film major and have good taste, what would you recommend??

i’m actually of the opinion that film majors don’t generally have better taste in movies, per se, but that we are better equipped to understand why some movies are better than others, but i still love rec’ing movies and i’m flattered that you think i have good taste, SO:

fruitvale station (so well made and so important)

badlands (if you liked moonrise kingdom, then you should have to see badlands. you don’t have to be a film major to see how clearly and overtly moonrise kingdom was based on/influenced by badlands)

the secret life of walter mitty (it’s a fairly new movie, but it’s a total game changer. maybe also a life changer)

top hat (it’s just so cute, ok, it’s so cute)

short term 12 (holy shit holy shit holy shit)

brothers solomon (if you want a highly underrated comedy that, like, three people saw)

everything is illuminated (like NO ONE saw this movie. maybe 5 people. i’m so sad that it did so poorly bc it really is a nice film)

a night at the opera (BEST MARX BROTHERS FILM. if you’ve ever thought, ‘huh, i want to get into the marx brothers,’ this is a great start)

safety not guaranteed (ahhhhhhh)

peep world (if you’re a fan of dysfunctional family flicks, this is a great indie take on the genre)

our idiot brother (THIS MOVIE IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES EVER, the cast is so great and the characters are so great and i love it)

jeff, who lives at home (this movie came into my life at an important time and i cherish it)

la vita è bella (an italian film, but it’s so extremely popular and beloved here in the states that there’s a really great dub for it that’s v readily available)

the secret world of arrietty (v cute, v v cute)
